Alpheus' Journey
Our first book follows tragic yet beautiful Greek myth of Alpheus centres on the river god's consuming passion for the nymph Arethusa. We've adapted the story to make it suitable for children. When Alpheus began his relentless pursuit, Arethusa fled across the sea and sought refuge on the island of Ortygia near Syracuse, Sicily. To grant her escape, the goddess Artemis intervened, transforming Arethusa into a fresh-water spring. However, Alpheus was so determined to be united with his love that he flowed underground beneath the sea from Greece, ultimately emerging in Sicily where his waters merged with the spring, achieving an eternal union that defied both distance and divine transformation.
